The family of Eduardo de la Plaza, the Venezuelan engineer, attempted to stop his burial here on Tuesday, November 17, by way of an injunction, REAL News has learned.
A reliable source said that de la Plaza’s relatives had hired a local attorney to make an application in the High Court to stop the funeral proceedings.
Reportedly, Venezuelan officials and their local counterparts had sought to have the coroner, Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh, stop the funeral. Accordingly, sources say the Magistrate was forced to leave the bench on several occasions to take their phone calls.
Other reports say de la Plaza’s family also wanted a photograph of the dead man. However, his death certificate and passport were sent to the Venezuelan Embassy to be forwarded to his relatives, instead.
De la Plaza’s funeral service was actually expected to be held on Sunday, the source says, but was pushed back to Tuesday on account of logistical issues.
Following his death, last Friday, Ministry of Health officials had reported that he suffered a heart attack some 22 hours after being admitted to the hospital with COVID-19.
Persons were then caught off guard when news circulated that de la Plaza had been buried before a post mortem was undertaken, as promised by Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
But the source says that no autopsy was needed since medical officials had already cited the cause of death as the coronavirus. This was recorded on the death certificate, which was signed off by Chief Magistrate Walsh in her capacity as coroner.
Autopsies are not usually performed on COVID-19 victims, the source adds, since it is uncertain how the disease affects a body after death. This was the case with the three prior virus-related deaths. The victims were buried very quickly without post mortems being done.
While many locals wondered at what they saw as “the rush to bury” the Venezuelan man, the source said based on international standards – victims of the virus should be buried within 24 hours of their death.
Several health precautions would be taken to ensure that the bodies are properly protected and secured in their coffins, the person says.
Meanwhile, the man who was seen in a video assisting funeral-home workers to move de la Plaza’s coffin to the gravesite is not at any risk of infection, an authority confirms.
This is because the engineer’s body would have been placed in a vacuum-sealed bag and then secured in yet another bag. No procedures are performed on the body, and the person is buried in the clothing they were wearing when they died, the source assures.
Reportedly, the law provides for persons who have contracted infectious diseases to be cremated, the person says. However, there are no such facilities on island. (SOURCE: REAL News)

Why was the burial of Venezuelan engineer performed in such a quick space of time even though the relatives forbid it.
Something is missing here that are not being told to the people. look at so many covid deaths in North America, and these body are place in cold storage until the family are ready to bury them .
So as you can see the explanation that is being given it is a pile of shit which is too high for my boots to step in.
I hope the family of that Venezuelan individual sue whosoever ordered the burial including the Antiguan government
Plus IF the body was placed in a VACUUM SEALED BAG and then another bag, they can more than place it on cold storage until the family satisfied … those “International Rules” are there as guidance and perhaps cover up … the man died from Heart Attack; yet you’re putting COVID-19 on death certificate … btw too; since when the Magistrate is a coroner doctor?
A family member died In the USA from Covid-19 and a funeral service was held, a viewing was also held. So I am bothered by the phrase International Standard for the burial of Covid-19 deaths. Smell Fishy.
Is simple….a cover-up operation, something went wrong and everyone want to wipe below the carpet
We need to change the government, and now, so that all the hidden secrets be exposed….especially our CIP money, and custom revenue collected. That is my opinion which I have the right to.
And we say WHITE People’s are wicked!.
Many blacks in power are worst
