Shermain Jeremy ‘more than willing to step up to the plate’

ABS news anchor and former Queen of Carnival Shermain Jeremy says she is more than willing to step up to place as the ABLP’s candidate for St. Peter, if it comes to that.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said if comrade Asot Michael is charged for any criminal action, he will not be able to run on a Labour Party ticket and would be replaced.

The 2004 Miss World Talent recipient said the man was discussed back in 2017 when the allegations against Michael first surfaced.

“When the Prime minister asked about stepping in, it was really about the party needing someone that they could depend on to take the minister’s place if it got to that point, someone who is willing to serve; and I told him it was a big task but I would definitely be interested,” Jeremy said.

“Whatever the party needed from me, I would be more than willing to step up to the plate and I also recognize that the people of St. Peter also are probably in need of someone who has more of their interest at heart, and maybe not everyone feels the same way about me being a candidate or a possible candidate by anybody who knows me knows that once I put my mind to something I do it wholeheartedly and 100 per cent always.

“So, if  it gets to the point where I am asked to step in, the people of St. Peter have nothing to fear,” Jeremy added.

In Oct. 2017, Prime Minister Browne announced that he had advised the Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams  to revoke the appointment from the Cabinet, of the then Tourism and Investment Minister, Asot Michael, pending the outcome of his arrest by the Metropolitan Police in London.

But Michael was allowed to run as a candidate in the St Peter constituency in the March 2018 general elections and subsequently secured a cabinet portfolio as Minister of Investment and Trade.

However, by May 2018 Michael resigned from the Cabinet after a recording surfaced in the United Kingdom High Court of him demanding payments and gifts from British investor, Peter Virdee.

  1. Does Mr PM know something that the public needs to know?🤔 Why did he say, “if he is charged criminally?” Just wondering 🙄

  2. Seems that since Asot mentioned that he might challenge for leadership, Gaston has decided it is time for him to go. Suddenly the PM out-of-the-blue mentions the potential prosecution by the British of Asot after so many months of it not being mentioned? That was intentional to set a grounding and basis for getting rid of Asot and setting it in people’s mind that maybe Asot really needs to go. He did all of this so that it will not come as a surprise when he actually does remove Asot as candidate for St. Peter. Asot, watch your back and sleep with one eye open. The knife in the back coming for you! Et tu, Brute
