A group of activists took to the streets Wednesday in outrage that Edda Schenato’s killer has been transferred from the prison to a retirement home.
After several weeks at the Mount St. John Medical Centre for treatment of a fractured hip, Umberto was sent to the Fiennes Institute, instead of back to Her Majesty’s Prison to continue serving his sentence.
This is the second time the Italian man has been let out of prison, the first being his unlawful release, in early 2019, by Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin.
Wednesday’s picket was organized by social activist Mary John, who has been using social media to bring attention to Umberto’s new living arrangements.
June 3 marked the seventh anniversary of the passing of Edda Schenato, who met her death at the hand of her husband, Umberto, in a daylight murder committed in he Epicurean Supermarket parking lot.

Residents of Fiennes may feel some measure of pride & satisfaction in that they are deemed officially to be on a par with a convicted murderer who if he were black like them would be a resident of 1735: let it not be said that ‘whiteness’ has no value in a post colonial Antigua & Barbuda.
