Do you keep your catsup in the pantry, on the counter or in the fridge?

Well, Heinz has finally set the record straight on where the beloved condiment should be stored to properly keep the tomato-y sauce ripe and ready.

Just in time for the summer season — and ahead of the Fourth of July Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest — the official Heinz UK Twitter account posted: “FYI: Ketchup. goes. in. the. fridge!!!”

Fans flooded the comments, with many asking why the product is stored on shelves at the supermarket or at restaurants.

Heinz continued the debate by asking followers to vote on whether they keep their ketchup in the fridge or in the cupboard.

The brand doubled down on the correct answer in the poll, writing: “It has to be… in the fridge!”

But after analyzing the 2,500-plus votes, the answers were nearly split down the middle.

“There was only ever one correct answer, and we’re happy to share with Heinz Tomato Ketchup lovers across the UK that our ketchup has to be in the fridge,” Olivia Lennon, at Heinz Tomato, told Daily Mail.

“Although we’re aware many Heinz Tomato Ketchup fans have been storing their ketchup in the cupboard, we do recommend refrigeration after opening,” she clarified.

“This is the best way to maintain the delicious tangy taste of our Heinz Tomato Ketchup that you know and love.”

The Heinz UK Twitter account had some fun being sweet and sour with their fans who felt passionately about the sauce-y debate.

In response to the condiment-storage conundrum, Twitter user @Crystalst_ joked: “Not beside my pillow?”

Heinz supported saying: “Second best place to keep it.”

When Twitter user @dave_n84 asked the question everyone was wondering: “So why is it on the shelves in supermarkets & shops then?” Heinz snapped back, asking: “Where do you keep your soft drinks, Dave?”

And when Twitter user @slymarbo666 insisted: “Never, ever has it ever gone in my fridge, nor anybody else’s.” Heinz quipped: “It does and they do. Case (fridge) closed.”

Finally, a few true ketchup connoisseurs joined the chat agreeing that the product needs to be refrigerated.

“Of course it does. After opening is this controversial?” @giildi responded.

“We started something,” Heinz replied, relishing the responses. “It has been a wild ride.”
