SVF defeat Ballerz, Wings flew past Warriors

Sea View Farm ensured the champions of the Warriors Cup 2023 will be decided on last day of competition when they overcame Master Ballerz 3-1 to set-up a title decider against unbeaten leaders Garden Stars.

Farm, the 2019 champions, took an early lead as they went on to defeat Ballerz 3-1 on Tuesday at Radio Range to move six, and must beat Stars by a handsome margin when both sides meet in Thursday’s lone match.

A brace by Akeem Warrick – including a well-taken free-kick in the dying embers of the match ensured Farm took the points after Rhezal Gomes, with his third goal of the tournament, had put SVF 2-0 ahead on 28 minutes.

Warrick, who opened the scoring after 14 minutes, added his second in injury time beating the goalkeeper with a deft left-footed strike from about 20 yards.

Ballerz’ Arandon Satchell had pulled goal back from the penalty spot six minute after the resumption to make it 2-1.

So Farm, who have a +1 goal difference, must not only defeat the rampant Garden Stars, but do so by a 13-goal advantage to win the championship, while Stars only need a draw to crown their debut in the 17-year-old history of the Cup with the title.

CPTSA Wings defeated host club, Young Warriors, 5-2 in the first match of Tuesday’s double-header with competing brothers – Jose and Manuel Arias – scoring a double each for their respective teams.

Jose, nicknamed Naymar, gave Warriors an early lead on five minutes after he missed a penalty and made it 2-2 on 28 minutes before Manuel had initially equalized for Wings a minute after his younger brother’s first goal. Manuel struck again on 51 minutes.

A brace as well from Mark Portsmouth and a Denya Looby strike helped Wings to their comfortable win as they finished on six points – like Ballerz – put a better goal difference.
