Parliament on Thursday approved a resolution to extend the public state of emergency until July 31, 2020.
The initial schedule for the state of emergency was set to expire today, May 14, however in a continued effort to control the spread of COVID-19, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has opted for it to be extended.
While there has only been one new case of infection over the past three weeks, Browne argues that the state of emergency is still need.
Officials speculate that the extension of the state of emergency has become necessary because the government believes that while the disease may have been contained, it has not been fully eradicated from the society.
