Colin Edwards, who is also known as “Scrumpum,” was charged by the Police and made his first court appearance in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, June 26.
It is alleged that he took $80,000 from a complainant, ostensibly to get the man a piece of land.
However, some time passed, and in spite of various attempts, the man had not received the land, nor his money back, from Edwards.
Edwards appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh and was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 with a cash deposit of $10,000 and two sureties.
There are several conditions to the bail, including Edwards reporting to the St. John’s Police Station three days each week and having to surrender his travel documents.
He returns to court for his committal proceedings on August 24. Sources say that Edwards was in trouble just last year over non-payment on a car loan. It is alleged that he purchased a car for a female, but later refused to pay on it.
He reportedly has other matters before the civil court.
