Robert De Niro announced this week that he recently welcomed a baby.

The Godfather actor was asked by a reporter from ET Canada what it was like to be a father of six children.

That is when he said he did not have six, but rather seven children, then shared that he recently welcomed a new child into his life. He did not share the name of the baby or the gender.

‘I just had a baby,’ he said.

The 79-year-old Oscar-winning actor did not reveal the identity of his baby’s mother, but he was last linked to  martial arts instructor Tiffany Chen. They were photographed holding hands in July 2022.

His rep confirmed to DailyMail.com that De Niro did not make a mistake and that he does indeed have seven children.

The interview took place this week when he was promoting his new film About My Father.

ET Canada asked Robert about being a dad and he shared that he believes ‘in being loving with [his] kids,’ but did say you have ‘to be stern about stuff.’

He continued, ‘I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice.

‘And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.’

The interviewer then said, ‘I know you have six kids,’ and Robert added, ‘Seven, actually.’

He then dropped his bombshell: ‘I just had a baby.’

He split from his wife of 20 years, Grace Hightower, in 2018.

Robert has two kids: Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46 with his ex wife Diahnne Abbott.

And he has two more children with Grace: Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11.

He is a dad to twins Aaron and Julian, 27, with former girlfriend, Toukie Smith.

His divorce from Hightower has been highly contentious. The ex-spouses have been locked in a battle since December 2018.

In April, a judge ruled that his ex-wife, 66, should receive $1 million annually and that the couple will split the proceeds after selling their $20 million home.

Robert and Grace were married in 1997, split in 1999, then got back together, renewed their vows in 2004 before he filed for divorce in 2018.

Initially the pair fought over custody of their child but now the arguments are over money and property.

Hightower’s average monthly spend was $215,000 a month on credit cards and $160,000 in cash. De Niro’s attorney, Caroline Krauss, claims the financial strain means the actor is running out of money.

She said the coronavirus pandemic led to a drying up of work projects for the Hollywood star.

Months earlier, De Niro earned $5million for acting in Martin Scorsese’s hit gangster flick, The Irishman. He also received ‘tens of millions of dollars’ through a federal coronavirus relief program.

Hightower claims that De Niro is worth $500million, but his attorney Caroline Krauss says that his estranged wife’s extravagant lifestyle is making things worse.
