DEAR EDITOR:
I’m utilizing this forum to express my concerns about the Gaston Browne-led ABLP administration’s hypocrisy. The Prime Minister has spoken on his radio station several times about ghost workers and his dislike for them, so why is he allowing this one worker to take advantage of the system?
This particular ghost worker has been hired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2016, and for almost three years, has not reported to work for even five minutes, despite getting a full salary from the Ministry. This is intolerable. Minister Greene, how can you stand by and let this happen right in front of you? Are you so alienated from your ministry that you don’t know what’s going on?
Imagine the Honourable Prime Minister rewarding this ghost worker with a high-ranking seat on a board as well as a post at Pointe FM. Academically, this person has no bachelor’s degree, no experience or training in urban renewal, and no communications/media credentials. Therefore, how can an unqualified person receive so many undeserving paychecks from this government? Is it because this person is a staunch supporter of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party? Corruption must stop! Preferential treatment must end! If the roles had been reversed, this individual would have been furious if someone else was collecting a salary while doing nothing.
Honourable Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Housing, Lands and Urban Renewal, I am requesting that you correct this situation. I believe it is only fair that this ghost worker repays the government for the benefits received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that they did not earn.
