Students representing the Cedar Grove Primary School recently handed over park benches to the Cedar Grove Clinic which formed a part of their Social Studies School Based Assessment (SBA). They were tasked to create a green space within their community. The hand-over ceremony was the culmination of a Grade 6 SBA in one of the core testing areas for the upcoming National Common Entrance Exams.
The Cedar Grove Health facility, a stones’ throw from the educational institution was the recipient of the newly constructed area complete with plants and benches which would allow for recreational space for visiting out-patients.
Parliamentary Representative for the area the Charles Fernandez assisted in the initiative which he saw as an excellent opportunity to foster the spirit of community activism and service within the students.
The Minister matched the student’s contribution of a park bench donated to the facility with one on his own behalf.
According to MP Fernandez, “community service is very important, and I am very impressed with the work put forward by the students. It is very important that you give back to the community in which you were nurtured, and I sincerely hope that even after your exams, that you will continue to focus on assisting in some way, shape or form to community development.”
Class teacher MGwenette Nicholas, expressed the sincerest appreciation to MP Fernandez for his assistance with the SBA, stating that after the exams the class will continue to focus their time and efforts on the green space by adding plants and maintaining their growth as well as keeping the area clean and weed free.
The out-patient space was handed over to the Head nurse and staff of the Cedar Grove Clinic.
Minister Fernandez wished the students every success in the upcoming June exams and pledged his continued support towards the overall development of the children in his constituency.
