Dean Jonas has strongly objected to Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s decision to revoke his appointment as Advisor to the Minister responsible for the Blue Economy.
As a former government minister, Jonas claims that the termination lacked due process, presenting a case for wrongful termination based on inaccurate information and unwarranted speculations.
Despite being appointed by the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda, Jonas asserts that he has not been granted an audience with the Minister responsible for the Blue Economy, both virtually and in-person. He emphasizes that his appointment letter clearly stipulated that the terms of his advisory role would be provided by the said Minister.
Jonas believes that the technical advice influencing the Prime Minister’s decision is flawed and calls for a careful review of the grounds for termination.
Urging the Prime Minister to seek additional advice and consider the matter in good faith, Jonas hopes for a resolution that prevents further disruptions to government operations.
In his letter, Jonas reminds the Prime Minister that protracted labor relations negotiations and hearings would divert attention from crucial government work.
He encourages the Prime Minister to reconsider the decision for the sake of an amicable resolution. Both letters are provided below for reference.
