During the offense, a 27-year-old man was shot in the buttocks.
Sources say that responding officers met the victim, an employee of Shell Beach Seafood, lying injured on the side of the road.
He was subsequently transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS), while officers allegedly recovered a warhead.
The other robbery victim, a Freetown man, an employee of the same business, escaped unharmed.
Allegedly, the men were traveling in a white Hyundai box truck and going through Cassada Gardens after having left Cedar Valley at about 5:50 a.m.
Reports say they were on their way to the St. John’s terminal, where they planned to catch the Barbuda Ferry, and were carrying a sum of cash to purchase lobster on the sister-island.
However, at about 6 a.m., while they were traveling from north to south on a by-road in Cassada Gardens, a black Wrangler jeep with three occupants blocked their path.
Allegedly, the three men exited the vehicle, held the victims at gunpoint, and robbed them of the money, along with other personal items.
They then fled in an easterly direction, reportedly making off with over $38,000 in cash.
The alleged robbers were said to be wearing dark-coloured clothing under their bulletproof vests.
A report of the robbery and shooting was made to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by a constable from Police Headquarters.
