2 new National Swim Records set at Annual Invitational Swimming Championships

Two national swimming records were created over the weekend at the 8th Annual Invitational Swimming Championships convened by the Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation, October 13- 15, 2023.

Tivon Benjamin is the new national record holder for the 100 meters butterfly, for males, clocking 56:11. This is also an age group record for the 15 to 17 age category.

Benajamin also set two additional age group records: the 50 meters backstroke with a time of 27:63 and the 200 meters freestyle with a time of 1:53:08.

Madison MacMillian also set a national record in the 100 meters backstroke category, for females, clocking 1:08:48. MacMillians beats her previous record of 1:08:82.

This is also an age group record for the 13-14 age category.

MacMillian also when on to create two additional age group records when she beat her record in the 400 meters freestyle category to create a new record of 4:39:68 and set the age record for 50 meters backstroke with a time of 32:06.

Additional age group records set in the girls ‘categories are:

Bianca Mitchell in the 18 and over age group, for the 50 meters breaststroke with a time of 35:88 beating her previous record of 36:42.

Ellie Shaw set an age group record, 13 to 14 for the 200 meters IM with a time of 2:31:85 and
Anya DeGaanes who set two age group records in the 11 to 12 age category for the 100 meters butterfly with a time of 1:10:08 and in the 200 meters IM, clocking 2:39:53

The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (ABSF) extends congratulations to all swimmers who participating in the weekend national championships.

Many of the athletes would have improved their times in the various swimming stroke categories.

Approximately sixty-five (65) athletes from four (4) swim clubs participated in the weekend meet.

Approximately thirty-four (34) swimmers who excelled at the Championships will be selected to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the upcoming OECS Championship in St. Lucia, November 10 to 12, 2023.

Antigua and Barbuda is the reigning OECS Swimming Champions and is seeking to retain the title.

OECS MSME Guarantee Facility Project

The Governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines have received financing in the amount of US$10 million equivalent from the World Bank towards the cost of establishing a partial credit guarantee scheme, and they intend to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, and consulting services to be procured under this project. 

The consultant will serve as the “Senior Operating Officer (SOO)” for the ECPCGC and should possess extensive knowledge of MSME lending with some direct experience lending to Micro, small and medium-sized businesses, knowledge of the internal control processes necessary for a lending operation and the ability to design and implement risk mitigation procedures. The ideal candidate should possess an Undergraduate Degree from a reputable college or university, preferably in Business, Accounting, Banking or related field, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in lending, inclusive of MSME lending. The initial employment period will be for two years on a contractual basis. Renewal of the contract will be subject to a performance evaluation at the end of the contractual period. The assignment is expected to begin on September 30th, 2021.  The consultant will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the ECPCGC.

The Eastern Caribbean Partial Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECPCGC) now invites eligible “Consultants” to indicate their interest in providing the Services. Interested Consultants should provide information demonstrating that they have:

  • An Undergraduate Degree from a reputable college or university, preferably in Business, Finance, Banking or related field; and
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in MSME lending. Applicants should also have:
  • The ability to design and implement risk management procedures 
  • Extensive knowledge of MSME lending with some direct experience lending to small and medium-sized businesses
  • Extensive knowledge of MSME banking operations
  • Knowledge of the internal controls necessary for a lending operation and the ability to design and implement risk management procedures
  • Experience developing and presenting information in public, including responding to questions in real-time
  • Experience lending to MSMEs located in the ECCU
  • Knowledge of marketing and communicating with the MSME sector
  • Ability to draft procedures to be used in a lending operation
  • Familiarity with the mechanics of a loan guarantee program
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite.

The attention of interested Individual Consultants is drawn to Section III, Paragraphs 3.14, 3.16, and 3.17 of the World Bank’s Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers July 2016, [revised November 2017] (“Procurement Regulations”), setting forth the World Bank’s policy on conflict of interest. A Consultant will be selected in accordance with the Approved Selection Method for Individual Consultants set out in the clause 7.34 of the World Bank Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers.
